How Eagle Metalizing Works Against Rust and Corrosion

The two principal systems we use to protect metal from rust and corrosion are "anodic" and "barrier". A metalized coating such as zinc or aluminum provides anodic protection in that it forms an oxide and sacrifices itself to protect underlying steel. The galvanic electro-chemical nature of zinc or aluminum coatings will retard corrosion on adjacent exposed steel inches away until the metal coating is consumed.

Barrier systems such as paint typically contain numerous microscopic "pin holes". Moisture penetrates these pin holes to reach the protected metal. When this happens, rust forms. Rust expands twenty times, resulting in pits and blistering which lifts away the barrier coating.
